SEMSEC
(Society for Ethnomusicology, Southeast and Caribbean Chapter) is a
member chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology. The Society for
Ethnomusicology (SEM) was founded in 1955 to promote the research,
study,
and performance of music in all historical periods and cultural
contexts. SEM is multidisciplinary in concept and worldwide in scope.
Members of the Society for Ethnomusicology are scholars, students,
performers, publishers, museum specialists, and librarians from numerous
disciplines. SEMSEC was founded in 1981. Currently it includes the states of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina, plus all the countries in the Caribbean basin.
